Katie is owner and founder of Singing Heart LLC. Katie received her undergraduate degree in music therapy at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, completed her internship with Park Nicollet health services, and holds a master’s degree in music therapy from St. Mary-of -the-woods College. Katie has worked in multiple settings with a wide variety of clientele including adults and children with cancer and terminal illnesses, children and adults with neurological impairments and developmental delays, children and adults with eating disorders, individuals with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, elderly and patients in hospice. Katie has provided music therapy services in day care centers, nursing homes, private homes, group homes, schools and hospitals in both individual and group sessions. In addition to practicing music therapy Katie is a certified children and teen meditation facilitator, has received training in mindfulness for children, and has completed coursework in yoga calm.
Through her career Katie has developed music therapy and music programming at Children’s Hospital St. Paul, work training sites for adults with developmental disabilities, and nursing homes. Katie has received grant support for her previous work at Children’s Hospital, and was a community collaborative grant recipient through the University of Minnesota, developing mindfulness based music and movement classes for children and their families.
Katie believes that every individual has within them exponential potential, creativity and joy which can be accessed through connecting to music, movement, art, and imagination. Through nurturing ones creative potential one can contribute positively to a more peaceful, vibrant, and joy filled world.
